Earlier versions of PST
As we code more occupations it becomes necessary to modify PST continuously, that not all modifications affect the defintion table. We recognise this is a potential cause of confusion but there is no alternative. The following version notes may be useful. We intend to supply definition tables for the earlier version on this page in due course.
PST 2004
This is the first version of PST and was used in: E. A. Wrigley, ‘The occupational structure of England in the mid-nineteenth century’, in Wrigley, Poverty, progress, and population (Cambridge, 2004)
PST 2006
This is the version that accompanies the files that were deposited with the Arts and Humanities Data Service in 2006 which have since been transferred to the Economic and Social Data Service.
PST December 2008
This is the version used by the INCHOS project.
PST February 2010
This is the version that accompanies the files depositied with the Economic and Social Data Service in 2010.
PST April 2010
This is the most up-to-date version at the time of writing.
