Public engagement

Public engagement

We are very keen to encourage public interaction with our findings and we have created an interactive website and a number of other resources for schools.

Populations Past

Centuries of censuses - podcasts

Interactive website

As part of the Atlas of Victorian Fertility project, we have created an interactive website, Populations Past, to allow exploration of the geography of demographic and socio-economic outcome measures, and this will be extended to Scotland as part of the Britain's First Demographic Transition project.

Resources for teachers

The Resources section of Populations Past provides a selection of worksheets aimed at supporting key stage 3 and 4 history and geography teaching.

Engaging with the Census 2021

In 2021 we were funded by the AHRC and ESRC to run workshops with Year 8 students from South Wales and co-produce podcasts and teaching materials related to the census. These are available from the Resources section of Populations Past and the Department of Geography's YouTube channel.
